We propose that applying newly developed quantitative molecular and neuroscience technologies will advance our understanding of the unique neurobiology of each disorder and enable the development of personalized therapy.The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence of COVID-19 disease in the French national population of dialysis patients, their course of illness and to identify the risk factors associated with mortality. Our study included all patients on dialysis recorded in the French REIN Registry in April 2020. Clinical characteristics at last follow-up and the evolution of COVID-19 illness severity over time were recorded for diagnosed cases (either suspicious clinical symptoms, characteristic signs on the chest scan or a positive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) for SARS-CoV-2. More importantly, in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate that electron-affinic poly(aminoimidazole) product from hypoxia-responsive transition of poly(metronidazole) polymers could efficiently enhance hypoxic cell apoptosis and induce solid tumor ablation. Thus, this work offers a potential hypoxia-activated ROS burst-PDT/CDT strategy with a superior antitumor efficacy, highlighting a promising clinical application.To cater to medication needs in the future healthcare system, we need to shift from the conventional system of drug delivery to modern molecular signature-based drug delivery systems. The current drug therapies are either less effective, ineffective, or produce numerous adverse reactions. One scientific principle or discipline cannot adequately address all the problems, so we need an innovative application of the current scientific principles. Here we are proposing a novel concept of nanoformulation based on pharmacogenomics and theranostics for personalized error-free and targeted therapeutic agent delivery. The addition of more knowledge about the human genome opens the new way to study disease-gene, gene-drug, and drug-effect interactions, which is the basis of future medicines. Pharmacogenomics provides information about the disease etiology, role in genes in disease pathophysiology, disease biomarkers, drug targets, drug effects, and the fate of drugs inside the body. Theranostics approach utilizes the above information in diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of the disease on a real-time basis.

Monitoring socioeconomic inequalities in population health is important in order to reduce them. We aim to determine if educational inequalities in Global Activity Limitation Indicator (GALI) disability have changed between 2002 and 2017 in Europe (26 countries).

We used logistic regression to quantify the annual change in disability prevalence by education, as well as the annual change in prevalence difference and ratio, both for the pooled sample and each country, as reported in the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) and the European Social Survey (ESS) for individuals aged 30-79 years.

In EU-SILC, disability prevalence tended to decrease among the high educated. As a result, both the prevalence difference and the prevalence ratio between the low and high educated increased over time. There were no discernible trends in the ESS. However, there was substantial heterogeneity between countries in the magnitude and direction of these changes, but without clear geographical patterns and without consistency between surveys.

The literature on women who use injection drugs (WUIDs) is antiquated and diluted by data from men. Due to the higher rates of morbidity and mortality among WUID, we undertook a qualitative study to better understand their drug use practices.

We adopted a Deleuze-Guattarian lens and engaged in semi-structured interviews with 35 women in Ottawa, Canada. Data from 31 of these women were analyzed using applied thematic analysis.

We divided these themes into (a) how WUID obtain resources to acquire drug,and (b) the steps involved in preparing, using, and discarding drugs. From our Deleuzo-Guattarian perspective, these findings highlighted that participants stratified their worlds according to rules of cleanliness to create hierarchies of appropriateness and acceptability.

These findings, overall, highlight the importance of understanding the constructed world of WUIDs, particularly regarding the ways in which nurses interact with these women to provide care.

Organizational changes are increasingly rapid and continuous in health care as organizations strive to meet multiple external pressures. Much change in health care fails and nurse resistance is commonly blamed for such failure. Nurse resistance to organizational change is often described as overt behaviours and are deemed destructive to the change process. Much of the literature describing organizational change comes from the perspectives of administrators, there is little known about nurses' experiences of organizational change. The purpose of this inquiry was to explore the nature of frontline nurses' experiences of rapid and continuous change.

A qualitative critical hermeneutic design was applied. 14 Registered Nurses participated in face-to-face interviews. The global increase in prevalence of individuals with end-stage renal disease is a rising concern. Self-care is an essential and important component of chronic disease management. Poor self-care in patients receiving hemodialysis is associated with an increased risk of mortality and hospitalization. This study aimed to identify predictive factors for self-care in patients receiving hemodialysis based on a middle-range theory of self-care for chronic illness.

Adult patients with end-stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis were recruited at an artificial kidney unit in a general hospital. Data from 131 patients were analyzed. Self-report questionnaires assessed hemodialysis-related knowledge, health motivation, self-efficacy, social support, access to care, and self-care.

Participants who had a family caregiver showed significantly higher selfcare scores than those who did not, and self-care scores were higher in patients who reported hypertension as a causal disease of end-stage renal disease than in those who did not. Self-care was significantly correlated with knowledge, health motivation, self-efficacy, social support, and access to care. The study's regression model showed that self-efficacy, health motivation, and knowledge were predictive variables influencing self-care, and the explanatory power of this model was 55.9%.

The results support the middle-range theory of self-care for chronic illness. Strategies and education to improve self-efficacy, health motivation, and knowledge must be incorporated when designing self-care programs. Nursing interventions that patients can participate in with their family members might facilitate improving self-care.

Maternal hyperglycaemia and hyperinsulinemia play an important role in the aetiology of GDM. A combination of these and other factors predisposes women to developing GDM with pre-pregnancy normal weight, viz. classic GDM. However, women with GDM and prepregnancy obesity (gestational diabesity, GDty) or overweight (GDMow) show a different metabolic status than women with classic GDM. GDty and GDMow are associated with altered l-arginine/nitric oxide and insulin/adenosine axis signalling in the human foetoplacental microvascular and macrovascular endothelium. These alterations differ from those observed in classic GDM. Here, we have reviewed the consequences of GDty and GDMow in the modulation of foetoplacental endothelial cell function, highlighting studies describing the modulation of intracellular pH homeostasis and the potential implications of NO generation and adenosine signalling in GDty-associated foetal vascular insulin resistance. Moreover, with an increase in the rate of obesity in women of childbearing age worldwide, the prevalence of GDty is expected to increase in the next decades. Therefore, we emphasize that women with GDty and GDMow should be characterized with a different metabolic state from that of women with classic GDM to develop a more specific therapeutic approach for protecting the mother and foetus.
To evaluate the precision and utility of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) in differentiating between benign and malignant parotid tumours, and the implications of FNA results on management and outcomes.

All adults who underwent preoperative FNA, followed by postoperative histological examination, between 1986 and 2014.

We analysed 505 samples from 485 patients. According to histopathological results, preoperative FNA successfully identified benign tumours in 89% of the cases (362/405) and only 59% of malignant tumours (59/100). Overall sensitivity and specificity of FNA in distinguishing between different subtypes of benign lesions were 80% and 99%, respectively, whereas positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were 85% and 98%. To date, SDFQ has been validated in different languages, but an Italian version was lacking. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to translate and validate the Italian version of the SDFQ-IT (SDFQ-IT). A suitable method was developed for the translation protocol and cross-cultural validation from Spanish to Italian. Regarding the total marks from each sub-scale, agreement degrees, and confidence were analysed using the Cronbach's α and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. In addition, the mean ± SD differences between pre and post-tests were calculated and completed using the Bland and Altman distribution plots. Excellent agreement between the two versions based on Cronbach's α was demonstrated. Three sub-scales consisting of knowledge of foot hygiene, the appropriate use of footwear and socks, and podiatric self-care were added together to obtain the total score.

Organizational changes are increasingly rapid and continuous in health care as organizations strive to meet multiple external pressures. Much change in health care fails and nurse resistance is commonly blamed for such failure. Nurse resistance to organizational change is often described as overt behaviours and are deemed destructive to the change process. Much of the literature describing organizational change comes from the perspectives of administrators, there is little known about nurses' experiences of organizational change. The purpose of this inquiry was to explore the nature of frontline nurses' experiences of rapid and continuous change.

A qualitative critical hermeneutic design was applied. 14 Registered Nurses participated in face-to-face interviews. The global increase in prevalence of individuals with end-stage renal disease is a rising concern. Self-care is an essential and important component of chronic disease management. Poor self-care in patients receiving hemodialysis is associated with an increased risk of mortality and hospitalization. This study aimed to identify predictive factors for self-care in patients receiving hemodialysis based on a middle-range theory of self-care for chronic illness.

Adult patients with end-stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis were recruited at an artificial kidney unit in a general hospital. Data from 131 patients were analyzed. Self-report questionnaires assessed hemodialysis-related knowledge, health motivation, self-efficacy, social support, access to care, and self-care.

Participants who had a family caregiver showed significantly higher selfcare scores than those who did not, and self-care scores were higher in patients who reported hypertension as a causal disease of end-stage renal disease than in those who did not. Self-care was significantly correlated with knowledge, health motivation, self-efficacy, social support, and access to care. The study's regression model showed that self-efficacy, health motivation, and knowledge were predictive variables influencing self-care, and the explanatory power of this model was 55.9%.

The results support the middle-range theory of self-care for chronic illness. Strategies and education to improve self-efficacy, health motivation, and knowledge must be incorporated when designing self-care programs. Nursing interventions that patients can participate in with their family members might facilitate improving self-care.

ted with better clinical outcomes, and RAAS suppressors do not increase mortality and may decrease the need for ICU admission.Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) shows a deficiency in the metabolism of D-glucose and other nutrients, thereby negatively affecting the foetoplacental vascular endothelium. Maternal hyperglycaemia and hyperinsulinemia play an important role in the aetiology of GDM. A combination of these and other factors predisposes women to developing GDM with pre-pregnancy normal weight, viz. classic GDM. However, women with GDM and prepregnancy obesity (gestational diabesity, GDty) or overweight (GDMow) show a different metabolic status than women with classic GDM. GDty and GDMow are associated with altered l-arginine/nitric oxide and insulin/adenosine axis signalling in the human foetoplacental microvascular and macrovascular endothelium. These alterations differ from those observed in classic GDM. Here, we have reviewed the consequences of GDty and GDMow in the modulation of foetoplacental endothelial cell function, highlighting studies describing the modulation of intracellular pH homeostasis and the potential implications of NO generation and adenosine signalling in GDty-associated foetal vascular insulin resistance. Moreover, with an increase in the rate of obesity in women of childbearing age worldwide, the prevalence of GDty is expected to increase in the next decades. Therefore, we emphasize that women with GDty and GDMow should be characterized with a different metabolic state from that of women with classic GDM to develop a more specific therapeutic approach for protecting the mother and foetus.
To evaluate the precision and utility of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) in differentiating between benign and malignant parotid tumours, and the implications of FNA results on management and outcomes.

We analysed 505 samples from 485 patients. According to histopathological results, preoperative FNA successfully identified benign tumours in 89% of the cases (362/405) and only 59% of malignant tumours (59/100). Overall sensitivity and specificity of FNA in distinguishing between different subtypes of benign lesions were 80% and 99%, respectively, whereas positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were 85% and 98%. To date, SDFQ has been validated in different languages, but an Italian version was lacking. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to translate and validate the Italian version of the SDFQ-IT (SDFQ-IT). A suitable method was developed for the translation protocol and cross-cultural validation from Spanish to Italian. Regarding the total marks from each sub-scale, agreement degrees, and confidence were analysed using the Cronbach's α and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. In addition, the mean ± SD differences between pre and post-tests were calculated and completed using the Bland and Altman distribution plots. Excellent agreement between the two versions based on Cronbach's α was demonstrated. Three sub-scales consisting of knowledge of foot hygiene, the appropriate use of footwear and socks, and podiatric self-care were added together to obtain the total score.
