Recent advancements in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things (IoT) create new opportunities for autonomous industrial environments monitoring. Nevertheless, detecting anomalies in harsh industrial settings remains challenging. This paper proposes an edge-fog-cloud architecture with mobile IoT edge nodes carried on autonomous robots for thermal anomalies detection in aluminum factories. We use companion drones as fog nodes to deliver first response services and a cloud back-end for thermal anomalies analysis. We also propose a self-driving deep learning architecture and a thermal anomalies detection and visualization algorithm. Our results show our robot surveyors are low-cost, deliver reduced response time, and more accurately detect anomalies compared to human surveyors or fixed IoT nodes monitoring the same industrial area. Our self-driving architecture has a root mean square error of 0.19 comparable to VGG-19 with a significantly reduced complexity and three times the frame rate at 60 frames per second. This multicenter study retrospectively investigated later-line, real-world use of lorlatinib in patients with advanced ALK- or ROS1-positive lung cancer. Fifty-one patients registered in a compassionate use program in Austria, who received second- or later-line lorlatinib between January 2016 and May 2020, were included in this retrospective real-world data analysis. Median follow-up was 25.3 months. Median time of lorlatinib treatment was 4.4 months for ALK-positive and 12.2 months for ROS-positive patients. ALK-positive patients showed a response rate of 43.2%, while 85.7% percent of the ROS1-positive patients were considered responders. Median overall survival from lorlatinib initiation was 10.2 and 20.0 months for the ALK- and ROS1-positive groups, respectively. In the ALK-positive group, lorlatinib proved efficacy after both brigatinib and alectinib. Lorlatinib treatment was well tolerated. Whilst other wearable gear, such as helmets, masks, or mouthguards, are becoming increasingly more common. Thus, an accurate PDR method that is specifically designed for head-mounted sensors is needed. It could have various applications in sports, emergency rescue, smart home, etc. In this paper, a new PDR method is introduced for head mounted sensors and compared to two established methods. The data were collected by sensors that were placed on glasses and embedded into a mouthguard. The main idea here is to significantly enhance safety using a combination of recognition of human actions using visual perception and at the same time interpreting physical human-robot contact by tactile perception. Two datasets containing contact and vision data are collected by using different volunteers. The action recognition system classifies human actions using the skeleton representation of the latter when entering the shared workspace and the contact detection system distinguishes between intentional and incidental interactions if physical contact between human and cobot takes place. Two different deep learning networks are used for human action recognition and contact detection, which in combination, are expected to lead to the enhancement of human safety and an increase in the level of cobot perception about human intentions. Trehalose serves as an energy source or stress protectant for insects. To study the potential role of trehalose in cold resistance on an egg parasitoid, cDNA for trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) and soluble trehalase (TRE) from Trichogramma dendrolimi were cloned and characterized. Gene expressions and enzyme activities of TdTPS and TdTRE were determined in larvae, prepupae, pupae, and adults at sustained low temperatures, 13 °C and 16 °C. TdTPS and TdTRE expressions had similar patterns with higher levels in prepupae at 13 °C and 16 °C. TdTPS enzyme activities increased with a decrease of temperature, and TdTRE activity in prepupae decreased sharply at these two low temperatures. In vitro reared T. dendrolimi could complete entire development above 13 °C, and the development period was prolonged without cold injury. Results indicated trehalose might regulate growth and the metabolic process of cold tolerance. Moreover, 13 °C is the cold tolerance threshold temperature and the prepupal stage is a critical developmental period for in vitro reared T. dendrolimi. These findings identify a low cost, prolonged development rearing method, and the cold tolerance for T. dendrolimi, which will facilitate improved mass rearing methods for biocontrol.There is a lack of prediction markers for early diabetic nephropathy (DN) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the performance of two promising biomarkers, urinary kidney injury molecule 1 (uKIM-1) and Chitinase-3-like protein 1 (YKL-40) in the diagnosis of early diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients. A comprehensive search was performed on PubMed by two reviewers until May 2020. For each study, a 2 × 2 contingency table was formulated. Sensitivity, specificity, and other estimates of accuracy were calculated using the bivariate random effects model. The hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic curve hsROC) was used to pool data and evaluate the area under curve (AUC). The sources of heterogeneity were explored by sensitivity analysis. Publication bias was assessed using Deek's test. The meta-analysis enrolled 14 studies involving 598 healthy individuals, 765 T2DM patients with normoalbuminuria, 549 T2DM patients with microalbuminuria, and 551 T2DM patients with macroalbuminuria, in total for both biomarkers. The AUC of uKIM-1 and YKL-40 for T2DM patients with normoalbuminuria, was 0.85 (95%CI; 0.82-0.88) and 0.91 (95%CI; 0.88-0.93), respectively. The results of this meta-analysis suggest that both uKIM-1 and YKL-40 can be considered as valuable biomarkers for the early detection of DN in T2DM patients with the latter showing slightly better performance than the former.

Results Plasma neprilysin level was positively correlated with left ventricular (LV) mass index, LV end-systolic volume, and LV end-diastolic volume. Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that neprilysin level was negatively correlated with LV ejection fraction (β = -2.14; p = 0.013). The cumulative event rate of the composite of CV events was significantly greater in neprilysin tertile 3 (p = 0.049). Neprilysin tertile 3 was also associated with an increased cumulative event rate of cardiac events (p = 0.016). In Cox regression analysis, neprilysin tertile 3 was associated with a 2.61-fold risk for the composite of CV events [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.37-4.97] and a 2.72-fold risk for cardiac events (95% CI, 1.33-5.56) after adjustment for multiple variables. Conclusions Higher circulating neprilysin levels independently predicted the composite of CV events and cardiac events in HD patients. Methods Eighty-eight CTO patients were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent 2DTTE and CMR within 1 week. The correlation and agreement of LVEF, LVESV, and LVEDV as measured by 2DTTE and CMR were assessed using Pearson correlation, Kappa analysis, and Bland-Altman method. Results The mean age of patients enrolled was 57 ± 10 years. There was a strong correlation (r = 0.71, 0.90, and 0.80, respectively, all P less then 0.001) and a moderately strong agreement (Kappa = 0.62, P less then 0.001) between the two modalities in measurement of LV function. The agreement in patients with EF ≧50% was better than in those with an EF less then 50%. CTO patients without echocardiographic wall motion abnormality (WMA) had stronger intermodality correlations (r = 0.84, 0.96, and 0.87, respectively) and smaller biases in LV function measurement. Conclusions The difference in measurement between 2DTTE and CMR should be noticed in CTO patients with EF less then 50% or abnormal ventricular motion. Methods A total of 1,851 consecutive patients with STEMI undergoing PCI were retrospectively included at Cardiac Care Unit in Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital and divided into two groups according to their admission time derivation database (from January 2010 to December 2013, n = 1,145) and validation database (from January 2014 to April 2016, n = 706). Shock Index-C (SIC) was calculated as (SI × 100)-estimated CCr. Calibration was evaluated using the Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic. The predictive power of SIC was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results The predictive value and calibration of SIC for in-hospital death was excellent in derivation [area under the curve (AUC) = 0.877, p less then 0.001; Hosmer-Lemeshow chi-square = 3.95, p = 0.861] and validation cohort (AUC = 0.868, p less then 0.001; Hosmer-Lemeshow chi-square = 5.01, p = 0.756). SIC exhibited better predictive power for in-hospital events than SI (AUC 0.874 vs. 0.759 for death; 0.837 vs. 0.651 for major adverse clinical events [MACEs]; 0.707 vs. 0.577 for contrast-induced acute kidney injury [CI-AKI]; and 0.732 vs. 0.590 for bleeding, all p less then 0.001). Proximal humeral fractures with diaphyseal extension are rare. The results of our study support the use of LPF in medically stable patients in centers with the expertise to perform these procedures.

In January 2020, the Joint Commission endorsed a statement from the Emergency Care Research Institute citing point-of-care ultrasound as a potential hazard to patients for reasons related to training and skill verification, oversight of use, and recordkeeping and accountability mechanisms for clinical use; however, no evidence was presented to support these concerns. Existing data on point-of-care ultrasound practices in pediatric critical care settings verify that point-of-care ultrasound use continues to increase, and contrary to the concerns raised, resources are becoming increasingly available for point-of-care ultrasound use. Many institutions have recognized a successful approach to addressing these concerns that can be achieved through multispecialty collaborations.
Integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) have been associated with weight gain among women living with HIV. We aimed to investigate the association between INSTIs and change in cardiometabolic risk indicators.

Retrospective cohort.

Data from 2006 to 2017 were analyzed from women living with HIV enrolled in the longitudinal Women's Interagency HIV Study who were virally controlled on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for ≥5 consecutive semiannual visits. Women who switched/added an INSTI to ART (INSTI group) were compared with women who remained on non-INSTI ART (non-INSTI group). Outcomes included changes in fasting lipids and glucose, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), blood pressure (BP), and incident diabetes, hypertension, and insulin resistance. Outcomes were measured 6-12 months before and 6-18 months after INSTI switch/add in the INSTI group with comparable visits in the non-INSTI group. Longitudinal linear regression models compared change over time in each outcome by the study group.

One thousand one hundred eighteen participants (234 INSTI, 884 non-INSTI) were followed for a median 2.0 (Q1 1.9, Q3 2.0) years. Participants were median age 49 years, 61% Black, and 73% overweight or obese (body mass index ≥25 kg/m). Compared with non-INSTI, the INSTI group experienced greater increases in HbA1c (+0.05 vs. -0.06 mg/dL, P = 0.0318), systolic BP (+3.84 vs. +0.84 mm Hg, P = 0.0191), and diastolic BP (+1.62 vs. -0.14 mm Hg, P = 0.0121), with greatest change in HbA1c among women on INSTIs with ≥5% weight gain.

INSTI use was associated with unfavorable changes in HbA1c and systolic and diastolic BP during short-term follow-up. Further research is needed to understand long-term cardiometabolic effects of INSTI use.

HIV-exposed, uninfected (HEU) children have poorer early-life outcomes than HIV-unexposed children. The determinants of adverse health outcomes among HEU children are poorly understood but may result from chronic placental inflammation (CPI).

We enrolled 176 pregnant women living with HIV (WLWH) taking antiretroviral therapy in southwestern Uganda and 176 HIV-uninfected women to compare CPI prevalence by maternal HIV serostatus. Placentas were evaluated histologically by an expert pathologist for presence of CPI, defined as chronic chorioamnionitis, plasma cell deciduitis, villitis of unknown etiology, or chronic histiocytic intervillositis. Placentas with CPI were additionally immunostained with CD3 (T cell), CD20 (B cell), and CD68 (macrophage) markers to characterize inflammatory cell profiles.

WLWH and HIV-uninfected women had similar age, parity, and gestational age. Among WLWH, the mean CD4 count was 480 cells/µL, and 74% had an undetectable HIV viral load. We detected CPI in 16 (9%) placentas from WLWH and 24 (14%) from HIV-uninfected women (P = 0.18). Among WLWH, CPI was not associated with the CD4 count or HIV viral load. Villitis of unknown etiology was twice as common among HIV-uninfected women than WLWH (10 vs. 5%, P = 0.04). Among placentas with CPI, more villous inflammatory cells stained for CD3 or CD68 among HIV-uninfected women than WLWH (79% vs. 46%, P = 0.07).

CPI prevalence did not differ by HIV serostatus. T-cell (CD3) and macrophage (CD68) markers were more prevalent in placental inflammatory cells from HIV-uninfected women. Our results do not support CPI as a leading mechanism for poor outcomes among HEU children in the antiretroviral therapy era.

Neonatal sepsis causes morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. Clinicians need a predictive tool for the onset of neonatal infection to expedite treatment and prevent morbidity. Abnormal thermal gradients, a central-peripheral temperature difference (CPtd) of > 2°C or < 0°C, and elevated heart rate characteristic (HRC) scores are associated with infection.

This article presents the protocol for the Predictive Analysis using Temperature and Heart Rate (PATH) study.

This observational trial will enroll 440 very preterm infants to measure abdominal temperature (AT) and foot temperature (FT) every minute and HRC scores hourly for 28 days to compare to infection data. Time with abnormal thermal gradients (Model 1) and elevated HRC scores (Model 2) will be compared to the onset of infections. For data analysis, CPtd (AT-FT) will be investigated as two derived variables high CPtd (number/percentage of minutes with CPtd > 2°C) and low CPtd (number/percentage of minutes with CPtd < 0°C). Nurses are a difficult population to recruit for research. Barriers to recruitment of nurses include survey fatigue, hospital structures and institutional review boards as gatekeepers to accessing participants, and limited generalizability of findings. Social media present innovative opportunities to recruit participants for survey research. However, there is limited information about best practices for recruiting nurses through social media.

The aim of this report was to examine the advantages and disadvantages of and determine the best practices for recruiting nurses for survey studies via social media.

We examined recruitment strategies of three survey studies involving nurse participants. Each study used social exchange theory and leverage saliency theory to guide recruitment. The studies included were (a) Travel Nurse Onboarding study which recruited participants from a single closed group on Facebook; (b) Presenteeism and Nursing study where participants were recruited using association listservs,e, when, and how often to post. Alternate light sources (ALSs) are a tool used by forensic nurses to aid in the physical examination of patients. Prior research has shown some topical makeup products absorb alternate light similar to the absorption noted in bruises. Therefore, the purposes of this study were (a) to further examine the ALS findings of multiple brands and types of makeup products and (b) to compare the efficacy of three methods of makeup removal.

Fourteen makeup products were applied to the forearms of 100 healthy adult volunteers with varying skin tones and then assessed under white light, six alternate light wavelengths, and three color filters, producing 19 total wavelength-and-filter combinations. The results were recorded before and after removal procedures by forensic nurse examiners who were blinded to the removal method. A three-arm randomized controlled trial of makeup removal methods (soap and water, isopropyl alcohol swab, makeup removal wipe) was conducted with the participants.

All 14 makeup products produced absorption in at least 10% of the observations. Fluorescence was observed in more than 10% of the observations for only two products. After product removal, four products continued to produce statistically significant absorption findings when viewed under an ALS. One product produced significant fluorescence after removal procedures. There were no statistically significant differences between the removal methods noted in any of these analyses.

Previous studies have found that atropine can slow axial elongation and control the progression of myopia. Some ongoing trials have applied atropine combined with orthokeratology for myopia control, but few studies explored the effect of the strategy on axial elongation. This meta-analysis made a preliminary evaluation of the effect of atropine combined with orthokeratology on axial elongation to provide a reference for further researches.

We performed a specific search on PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, Web of Science, Ovid and Chinese electronic databases of VIP and Wanfang for randomized controlled trials, cohort studies and case-control studies conducted up to December 2019. The weighted mean difference (WMD) of mean change in axial elongation between the combination group of atropine and orthokeratology and the orthokeratology group was used for evaluation. Publication bias was detected using the Funnel plots test.

A total of five studies involving 341 participants younger than 18 years old met our inclusion criteria. The axial elongation was lower in the combination group of atropine and orthokeratology than that of the orthokeratology group (0.25 vs. 0.35; WMD=-0.09 mm, [95% confidence intervals, -0.15 to -0.04], Z=3.39, P=0.0007).

This meta-analysis demonstrates atropine combined with orthokeratology is effective in slowing axial elongation in myopia children. This effect may be superior to that of the orthokeratology alone.

Recent advancements in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things (IoT) create new opportunities for autonomous industrial environments monitoring. Nevertheless, detecting anomalies in harsh industrial settings remains challenging. This paper proposes an edge-fog-cloud architecture with mobile IoT edge nodes carried on autonomous robots for thermal anomalies detection in aluminum factories. We use companion drones as fog nodes to deliver first response services and a cloud back-end for thermal anomalies analysis. We also propose a self-driving deep learning architecture and a thermal anomalies detection and visualization algorithm. Our results show our robot surveyors are low-cost, deliver reduced response time, and more accurately detect anomalies compared to human surveyors or fixed IoT nodes monitoring the same industrial area. Our self-driving architecture has a root mean square error of 0.19 comparable to VGG-19 with a significantly reduced complexity and three times the frame rate at 60 frames per second. This multicenter study retrospectively investigated later-line, real-world use of lorlatinib in patients with advanced ALK- or ROS1-positive lung cancer. Fifty-one patients registered in a compassionate use program in Austria, who received second- or later-line lorlatinib between January 2016 and May 2020, were included in this retrospective real-world data analysis. Median follow-up was 25.3 months. Median time of lorlatinib treatment was 4.4 months for ALK-positive and 12.2 months for ROS-positive patients. ALK-positive patients showed a response rate of 43.2%, while 85.7% percent of the ROS1-positive patients were considered responders. Median overall survival from lorlatinib initiation was 10.2 and 20.0 months for the ALK- and ROS1-positive groups, respectively. In the ALK-positive group, lorlatinib proved efficacy after both brigatinib and alectinib. Lorlatinib treatment was well tolerated. Whilst other wearable gear, such as helmets, masks, or mouthguards, are becoming increasingly more common. Thus, an accurate PDR method that is specifically designed for head-mounted sensors is needed. It could have various applications in sports, emergency rescue, smart home, etc. In this paper, a new PDR method is introduced for head mounted sensors and compared to two established methods. The data were collected by sensors that were placed on glasses and embedded into a mouthguard. The main idea here is to significantly enhance safety using a combination of recognition of human actions using visual perception and at the same time interpreting physical human-robot contact by tactile perception. Two datasets containing contact and vision data are collected by using different volunteers. The action recognition system classifies human actions using the skeleton representation of the latter when entering the shared workspace and the contact detection system distinguishes between intentional and incidental interactions if physical contact between human and cobot takes place. Two different deep learning networks are used for human action recognition and contact detection, which in combination, are expected to lead to the enhancement of human safety and an increase in the level of cobot perception about human intentions. Trehalose serves as an energy source or stress protectant for insects. To study the potential role of trehalose in cold resistance on an egg parasitoid, cDNA for trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) and soluble trehalase (TRE) from Trichogramma dendrolimi were cloned and characterized. Gene expressions and enzyme activities of TdTPS and TdTRE were determined in larvae, prepupae, pupae, and adults at sustained low temperatures, 13 °C and 16 °C. TdTPS and TdTRE expressions had similar patterns with higher levels in prepupae at 13 °C and 16 °C. TdTPS enzyme activities increased with a decrease of temperature, and TdTRE activity in prepupae decreased sharply at these two low temperatures. In vitro reared T. dendrolimi could complete entire development above 13 °C, and the development period was prolonged without cold injury. Results indicated trehalose might regulate growth and the metabolic process of cold tolerance. Moreover, 13 °C is the cold tolerance threshold temperature and the prepupal stage is a critical developmental period for in vitro reared T. dendrolimi. These findings identify a low cost, prolonged development rearing method, and the cold tolerance for T. dendrolimi, which will facilitate improved mass rearing methods for biocontrol.There is a lack of prediction markers for early diabetic nephropathy (DN) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the performance of two promising biomarkers, urinary kidney injury molecule 1 (uKIM-1) and Chitinase-3-like protein 1 (YKL-40) in the diagnosis of early diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients. A comprehensive search was performed on PubMed by two reviewers until May 2020. For each study, a 2 × 2 contingency table was formulated. Sensitivity, specificity, and other estimates of accuracy were calculated using the bivariate random effects model. The hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic curve hsROC) was used to pool data and evaluate the area under curve (AUC). The sources of heterogeneity were explored by sensitivity analysis. Publication bias was assessed using Deek's test. The meta-analysis enrolled 14 studies involving 598 healthy individuals, 765 T2DM patients with normoalbuminuria, 549 T2DM patients with microalbuminuria, and 551 T2DM patients with macroalbuminuria, in total for both biomarkers. The AUC of uKIM-1 and YKL-40 for T2DM patients with normoalbuminuria, was 0.85 (95%CI; 0.82-0.88) and 0.91 (95%CI; 0.88-0.93), respectively. The results of this meta-analysis suggest that both uKIM-1 and YKL-40 can be considered as valuable biomarkers for the early detection of DN in T2DM patients with the latter showing slightly better performance than the former.

The patients were prospectively followed up to assess the primary endpoint (composite of CV events and cardiac events). Results Plasma neprilysin level was positively correlated with left ventricular (LV) mass index, LV end-systolic volume, and LV end-diastolic volume. Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that neprilysin level was negatively correlated with LV ejection fraction (β = -2.14; p = 0.013). The cumulative event rate of the composite of CV events was significantly greater in neprilysin tertile 3 (p = 0.049). Neprilysin tertile 3 was also associated with an increased cumulative event rate of cardiac events (p = 0.016). In Cox regression analysis, neprilysin tertile 3 was associated with a 2.61-fold risk for the composite of CV events [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.37-4.97] and a 2.72-fold risk for cardiac events (95% CI, 1.33-5.56) after adjustment for multiple variables. Conclusions Higher circulating neprilysin levels independently predicted the composite of CV events and cardiac events in HD patients. Methods Eighty-eight CTO patients were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent 2DTTE and CMR within 1 week. The correlation and agreement of LVEF, LVESV, and LVEDV as measured by 2DTTE and CMR were assessed using Pearson correlation, Kappa analysis, and Bland-Altman method. Results The mean age of patients enrolled was 57 ± 10 years. There was a strong correlation (r = 0.71, 0.90, and 0.80, respectively, all P less then 0.001) and a moderately strong agreement (Kappa = 0.62, P less then 0.001) between the two modalities in measurement of LV function. The agreement in patients with EF ≧50% was better than in those with an EF less then 50%. CTO patients without echocardiographic wall motion abnormality (WMA) had stronger intermodality correlations (r = 0.84, 0.96, and 0.87, respectively) and smaller biases in LV function measurement. Conclusions The difference in measurement between 2DTTE and CMR should be noticed in CTO patients with EF less then 50% or abnormal ventricular motion. Methods A total of 1,851 consecutive patients with STEMI undergoing PCI were retrospectively included at Cardiac Care Unit in Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital and divided into two groups according to their admission time derivation database (from January 2010 to December 2013, n = 1,145) and validation database (from January 2014 to April 2016, n = 706). Shock Index-C (SIC) was calculated as (SI × 100)-estimated CCr. Calibration was evaluated using the Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic. The predictive power of SIC was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results The predictive value and calibration of SIC for in-hospital death was excellent in derivation [area under the curve (AUC) = 0.877, p less then 0.001; Hosmer-Lemeshow chi-square = 3.95, p = 0.861] and validation cohort (AUC = 0.868, p less then 0.001; Hosmer-Lemeshow chi-square = 5.01, p = 0.756). SIC exhibited better predictive power for in-hospital events than SI (AUC 0.874 vs. 0.759 for death; 0.837 vs. 0.651 for major adverse clinical events [MACEs]; 0.707 vs. 0.577 for contrast-induced acute kidney injury [CI-AKI]; and 0.732 vs. 0.590 for bleeding, all p less then 0.001). Complications were predominantly due to postsurgical stiffness (in 7 patients, with 3 undergoing additional surgery) and nonunion or fixation failure (in 7 patients, with 6 undergoing additional surgery).

Proximal humeral fractures with diaphyseal extension are rare. The results of our study support the use of LPF in medically stable patients in centers with the expertise to perform these procedures.

In January 2020, the Joint Commission endorsed a statement from the Emergency Care Research Institute citing point-of-care ultrasound as a potential hazard to patients for reasons related to training and skill verification, oversight of use, and recordkeeping and accountability mechanisms for clinical use; however, no evidence was presented to support these concerns. Existing data on point-of-care ultrasound practices in pediatric critical care settings verify that point-of-care ultrasound use continues to increase, and contrary to the concerns raised, resources are becoming increasingly available for point-of-care ultrasound use. Many institutions have recognized a successful approach to addressing these concerns that can be achieved through multispecialty collaborations.
Integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) have been associated with weight gain among women living with HIV. We aimed to investigate the association between INSTIs and change in cardiometabolic risk indicators.

Retrospective cohort.

Data from 2006 to 2017 were analyzed from women living with HIV enrolled in the longitudinal Women's Interagency HIV Study who were virally controlled on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for ≥5 consecutive semiannual visits. Women who switched/added an INSTI to ART (INSTI group) were compared with women who remained on non-INSTI ART (non-INSTI group). Outcomes included changes in fasting lipids and glucose, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), blood pressure (BP), and incident diabetes, hypertension, and insulin resistance. Outcomes were measured 6-12 months before and 6-18 months after INSTI switch/add in the INSTI group with comparable visits in the non-INSTI group. Longitudinal linear regression models compared change over time in each outcome by the study group.

One thousand one hundred eighteen participants (234 INSTI, 884 non-INSTI) were followed for a median 2.0 (Q1 1.9, Q3 2.0) years. Participants were median age 49 years, 61% Black, and 73% overweight or obese (body mass index ≥25 kg/m). Compared with non-INSTI, the INSTI group experienced greater increases in HbA1c (+0.05 vs. -0.06 mg/dL, P = 0.0318), systolic BP (+3.84 vs. +0.84 mm Hg, P = 0.0191), and diastolic BP (+1.62 vs. -0.14 mm Hg, P = 0.0121), with greatest change in HbA1c among women on INSTIs with ≥5% weight gain.

INSTI use was associated with unfavorable changes in HbA1c and systolic and diastolic BP during short-term follow-up. Further research is needed to understand long-term cardiometabolic effects of INSTI use.

HIV-exposed, uninfected (HEU) children have poorer early-life outcomes than HIV-unexposed children. The determinants of adverse health outcomes among HEU children are poorly understood but may result from chronic placental inflammation (CPI).

We enrolled 176 pregnant women living with HIV (WLWH) taking antiretroviral therapy in southwestern Uganda and 176 HIV-uninfected women to compare CPI prevalence by maternal HIV serostatus. Placentas were evaluated histologically by an expert pathologist for presence of CPI, defined as chronic chorioamnionitis, plasma cell deciduitis, villitis of unknown etiology, or chronic histiocytic intervillositis. Placentas with CPI were additionally immunostained with CD3 (T cell), CD20 (B cell), and CD68 (macrophage) markers to characterize inflammatory cell profiles.

WLWH and HIV-uninfected women had similar age, parity, and gestational age. Among WLWH, the mean CD4 count was 480 cells/µL, and 74% had an undetectable HIV viral load. We detected CPI in 16 (9%) placentas from WLWH and 24 (14%) from HIV-uninfected women (P = 0.18). Among WLWH, CPI was not associated with the CD4 count or HIV viral load. Villitis of unknown etiology was twice as common among HIV-uninfected women than WLWH (10 vs. 5%, P = 0.04). Among placentas with CPI, more villous inflammatory cells stained for CD3 or CD68 among HIV-uninfected women than WLWH (79% vs. 46%, P = 0.07).

CPI prevalence did not differ by HIV serostatus. T-cell (CD3) and macrophage (CD68) markers were more prevalent in placental inflammatory cells from HIV-uninfected women. Our results do not support CPI as a leading mechanism for poor outcomes among HEU children in the antiretroviral therapy era.

Neonatal sepsis causes morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. Clinicians need a predictive tool for the onset of neonatal infection to expedite treatment and prevent morbidity. Abnormal thermal gradients, a central-peripheral temperature difference (CPtd) of > 2°C or < 0°C, and elevated heart rate characteristic (HRC) scores are associated with infection.

This article presents the protocol for the Predictive Analysis using Temperature and Heart Rate (PATH) study.

This observational trial will enroll 440 very preterm infants to measure abdominal temperature (AT) and foot temperature (FT) every minute and HRC scores hourly for 28 days to compare to infection data. Time with abnormal thermal gradients (Model 1) and elevated HRC scores (Model 2) will be compared to the onset of infections. For data analysis, CPtd (AT-FT) will be investigated as two derived variables high CPtd (number/percentage of minutes with CPtd > 2°C) and low CPtd (number/percentage of minutes with CPtd < 0°C). Nurses are a difficult population to recruit for research. Barriers to recruitment of nurses include survey fatigue, hospital structures and institutional review boards as gatekeepers to accessing participants, and limited generalizability of findings. Social media present innovative opportunities to recruit participants for survey research. However, there is limited information about best practices for recruiting nurses through social media.

The aim of this report was to examine the advantages and disadvantages of and determine the best practices for recruiting nurses for survey studies via social media.

We examined recruitment strategies of three survey studies involving nurse participants. Each study used social exchange theory and leverage saliency theory to guide recruitment. The studies included were (a) Travel Nurse Onboarding study which recruited participants from a single closed group on Facebook; (b) Presenteeism and Nursing study where participants were recruited using association listservs,e, when, and how often to post. Alternate light sources (ALSs) are a tool used by forensic nurses to aid in the physical examination of patients. Prior research has shown some topical makeup products absorb alternate light similar to the absorption noted in bruises. Therefore, the purposes of this study were (a) to further examine the ALS findings of multiple brands and types of makeup products and (b) to compare the efficacy of three methods of makeup removal.

Fourteen makeup products were applied to the forearms of 100 healthy adult volunteers with varying skin tones and then assessed under white light, six alternate light wavelengths, and three color filters, producing 19 total wavelength-and-filter combinations. The results were recorded before and after removal procedures by forensic nurse examiners who were blinded to the removal method. A three-arm randomized controlled trial of makeup removal methods (soap and water, isopropyl alcohol swab, makeup removal wipe) was conducted with the participants.

All 14 makeup products produced absorption in at least 10% of the observations. Fluorescence was observed in more than 10% of the observations for only two products. After product removal, four products continued to produce statistically significant absorption findings when viewed under an ALS. One product produced significant fluorescence after removal procedures. There were no statistically significant differences between the removal methods noted in any of these analyses.

Previous studies have found that atropine can slow axial elongation and control the progression of myopia. Some ongoing trials have applied atropine combined with orthokeratology for myopia control, but few studies explored the effect of the strategy on axial elongation. This meta-analysis made a preliminary evaluation of the effect of atropine combined with orthokeratology on axial elongation to provide a reference for further researches.

We performed a specific search on PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, Web of Science, Ovid and Chinese electronic databases of VIP and Wanfang for randomized controlled trials, cohort studies and case-control studies conducted up to December 2019. The weighted mean difference (WMD) of mean change in axial elongation between the combination group of atropine and orthokeratology and the orthokeratology group was used for evaluation. Publication bias was detected using the Funnel plots test.

A total of five studies involving 341 participants younger than 18 years old met our inclusion criteria. The axial elongation was lower in the combination group of atropine and orthokeratology than that of the orthokeratology group (0.25 vs. 0.35; WMD=-0.09 mm, [95% confidence intervals, -0.15 to -0.04], Z=3.39, P=0.0007).

This meta-analysis demonstrates atropine combined with orthokeratology is effective in slowing axial elongation in myopia children. This effect may be superior to that of the orthokeratology alone.

During operations such as repairs, unmanageable, adjustment, and set-up, robots can cause serious and fatal injuries to workers. Collaborative robotics recently plays a rising role in the manufacturing filed, warehouses, mining agriculture, and much more in modern industrial environments. This development advances with many benefits, like higher efficiency, increased productivity, and new challenges like new hazards and risks from the elimination of human and robotic barriers.

In this paper, the Advanced Human-Robot Collaboration Model (AHRCM) approach is to enhance the risk assessment and to make the workplace involving security robots. link3 The robots use perception cameras and generate scene diagrams for semantic depictions of their environment. We identified and selected 15 publications from both Anglophone and Francophone databases, i.e., Cairn, Francis, HAL, PsycINFO, PubMed, ResearchGate and ScienceDirect.

The reviewed publications and studies highlight the difficulties healthcare professionals face with regard to the relationship with patients and their families. Two studies in particular suggest that the difficulties these professionals experience daily can lead to burnout. Other potential burnout factors include the healthcare profession category, the work environment, lack of training and the time spent working with this specific group of patients.

Self-control is an important factor in predicting employees' organizational citizenship behavior, but previous studies have not examined the internal mechanism by which self-control affects organizational citizenship behavior.

The current study aimed to explore the relationship between self-control and employees' organizational citizenship behavior and to test the mediating effects of vocational delay of gratification and job satisfaction.

Participants were 474 full-time employees (187 male, 287 female) from different companies in South China. They answered online self-report questionnaires that assessed self-control, vocational delay of gratification, job satisfaction, and organizational citizenship behavior. Path analyses were conducted and a bootstrap technique was used to judge the significance of the mediation.

The results showed that high self-control employees were more willing to engage in citizenship behavior that benefitted their organizations and colleagues, and the chain mediating effect of vocational delay of gratification and job satisfaction between self-control and organizational citizenship behavior was significant.

Airplane de-icing technicians work from either an open-basket or closed-basket.

The objective of this study is to identify the tasks that have an influence on the physical fatigue of open-basket aircraft de-icing technicians.

In a Canadian airport during the winter of 2016-2017, a field study was conducted in which the heart rate of 12 volunteer participants was collected. The data was analyzed along with the 22 tasks that make up the activity of open-basket aircraft de-icing. For each participant, the mean absolute cardiac cost per task was compared. The evolution of the cardiac signal based on the resting heart rate and steady state limit was also characterized.

According to the cumulative results fatigue occurs for periodic tasks as well as double tasks. More precisely, the most physically fatiguing tasks are spraying de-icing and anti-icing fluids, moving the basket and truck, as well as tactile control and de-icing quality control at ground level.

Similar studies would need to be conducted in other aircraft de-icing facilities to improve the generalization of the results.

A worker's work habits can affect their health, both physically and psychologically. Negative results have been associated with work demands (stress, anxiety and depression).

In the present research we carried out a predictive study of work addiction by applying three questionnaires on depression and anxiety.

In this study, the participants were 332 workers, obtained through non-probabilistic sampling. The FACTOR (version 7.2) and SPSS 23.0 programs were used.

The results of the correlation analysis show both positive and negative associations with the variables studied. We conclude that work addiction variables can predict anxiety and depression because we found that two variables predict 18.3% of depression and 20.3% of anxiety, which are feelings generated by work and excessive work.

It can be concluded that feelings generated by work and excessive work predict anxiety and depression, thus the present research helps to broaden knowledge on work addiction, promoting a healthy lifestyle and prevent absenteeism.

If not effectively managed, chronic hyperglycaemia causes tissue damage that can develop into fibrosis. Fibrosis leads to end-organ complications, failure of organ systems occurs, which can ultimately cause death. One strategy to tackle end-organ complications is to maintain normoglycaemia. Conventionally, insulin is administered subcutaneously. Whilst effective, this delivery route shows several limitations, including pain. The transdermal route is a favourable alternative. Microneedle (MN) arrays are minimally invasive and painless devices that can enhance transdermal drug delivery. Convincing evidence is provided on MN-mediated insulin delivery. MN arrays can also be used as a diagnostic tool and monitor glucose levels. Furthermore, sophisticated MN array-based systems that integrate glucose monitoring and drug delivery into a single device have been designed. Therefore, MN technology has potential to revolutionise diabetes management. This review describes the current applications of MN technology for diabetes management and how these could prevent diabetes induced fibrosis.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of miR-431-5p on hepatocyte apoptosis in AIH.

We used intraperitoneal injection of S100 to establish AIH mouse model and injected AAV into tail vein on day 14 of modeling to regulate miR-431-5p expression. The expression of ALT, AST, IgG and apoptosis-related proteins Bax, Bcl-2 and cleaved caspase 3 were measured in each group. Cellular experiments were performed using miR-431-5p mimics or inhibitors to transfect LPS-stimulated AML12 cells, and apoptosis was verified using Western blot and Hoechst 33342/PI Double Staining. The target of miR-431-5p, KLF15, was screened using databases and verified by the luciferase reporter assay. The relationship between KLF15 and p53 was verified by si-KLF15 and PFTβ (a p53-specific inhibitor).

Here, we observed that the increase in the level of miR-431-5p was accompanied by a decrease in the expression of Krüppel-like zinc finger transcription factor 15 (KLF15). In addition, the deletion of miR-431-5p significantly reduced hepatocyte apoptosis in AIH mice induced by liver S100 and apoptosis of AML12 cells induced by LPS stimulation, accompanied by decreased expression of Bax and cleaved caspase-3 as well as increased expression of Bcl-2. Moreover, KLF15 was the direct and functional target of miR-431-5p. Furthermore, miR-431-5p negatively regulated the expression of KLF15, and KLF15 deletion partially abolished the inhibitory effect of miR-431-5p deletion on apoptosis by activating p53 signaling.

This study evaluated the effect of euphol isolated from Euphorbia umbellata (Pax) Bruyns latex on the activation of complement pathways (classical (CP), alternative (AP) and lectin (LP)), neutrophil chemotaxis, cytotoxic activity, cell morphology and death in HRT-18 and 3T3 cells lines.

CP and AP were assessed using hemolytic assays and ELISA for LP; neutrophil chemotaxis was performed using Boyden's chamber; cytotoxicity was evaluated by neutral red methodology and characteristics of cell death were assessed by cell morphology with hematological staining.

Although euphol increased CP activation (38% at a concentration of 976.1μM), an inhibitory effect on AP, LP (31% and 32% reduction in the concentration of 976.1μM) and neutrophil chemotaxis (inhibit 84% of neutrophil migration at a concentration 292.9μM) was observed. In addiction euphol was able to induce significant cell death in a time-dependent manner, presenting an IC
of 70.8μM and 39.2μM for HRT-18 and 3T3 cell lines respectively and it was also observed apoptotic characteristics as cellular rounding, chromatin condensation and blebs formation for both cell lines.

Here we tested the hypothesis that HG induced reactive nitrogen species (RNS) production acts as a key functional mediator of antioxidant depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, biomolecule damage, inflammation and apoptosis. Our findings illustrated that exposure of cultured RGC-5 cells to HG significantly disrupts the antioxidant defense mechanism and mitochondrial machineries by increasing the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔѰM) and elevating mitochondrial mass. Furthermore, we used biochemical tools to analyze the changes in metabolites, sulfur amino acids (SAAs) such as L-glutathione (GSH) and L-cysteine (Cys), in the presence of HG environment. These metabolic changes were followed by an increase in glycolytic flux that is phosphofructokinase-2 (PFK-2) activity. Moreover, HG exposure results in a significant disruption of protein carbonylation (PC) and lipid peroxidation (LPO), downregulation of OGG1 and increase in 8-OHdG accumulations in RGC-5 cells. In addition, our results demonstrated that HG environment coinciding with increased expression of inflammatory mediators, cell cycle deregulation, decreased in cell viability and expression of FoxOs, increased lysosomal content leading to apoptosis. Rational design of protein scaffolds with specific biological functions/activities has attracted much attention over the past decades. In the present study, we systematically examine the trimer-of-hairpins (TOH) motif of human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) F protein, which plays a central role in viral membrane fusion and is a coiled-coil six-helix bundle formed by the antiparallel intermolecular interaction between three N-terminal heptad-repeat (HRN) helices and three C-terminal heptad-repeat (HRC) helices.

A rational strategy that integrates dynamics simulation, thermodynamics calculation, fluorescence polarization and circular dichroism is proposed to design HRC-targeted α-helical hairpin traps based on the crystal template of HRN core.

The designed hairpin traps possess a typical helix-turn-helix scaffold that can be stabilized by stapling a disulfide bridge across its helical arms, which are highly structured (helicity >60%) and can mimic the native spatial arrangement of HRN helices in TOH motif to trap the hotspot sites of HRC with effective affinity (K

Nearly a third of U.S. veterans who deployed in support of the 1990-1991 Persian Gulf War are affected by Gulf War illness (GWI). Here we aimed to characterize whether subjective sleep complaints in GWI veterans are associated with objective sleep EEG disturbances relative to healthy veterans and controls; and whether Gulf War veterans show alterations in neural activity during sleep that differentiate them from healthy subjects.

We used high-density EEG (HDEEG) to assess regional patterns of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and non-REM (NREM) sleep between three groups Gulf War male veterans with fatigue and GWI, Gulf War male veterans without fatigue or GWI, and control males. The groups were matched relative to age, sex and obstructive sleep apnea. Topographic comparisons of nocturnal NREM and REM sleep were made between groups for all frequency bands.

Topographic analysis revealed a broadband reduction in EEG power in a circumscribed region overlying the frontal lobe in both groups of Gulf War veterans, regardless of GWI and fatigue. This frontal reduction in neural activity was present, to some extent, across all frequency bands in NREM and REM sleep.

Given that our findings were observed in all Gulf War veterans, it appears unlikely that frontal sleep HDEEG power reductions prove wholly responsible for fatigue symptoms. These results provide avenues for research which may someday contribute to improved clinical care of formerly deployed veterans of the Persian Gulf War.

The present study aimed to evaluate the protective action of thymol towards l-arginine-induced acute pancreatitis (AP) by studying the function of rat peritoneal immune cells.

Rat peritoneal exudate cells (PECs), obtained 24h after the injection of l-arginine (350mg/100g of b.w.), were evaluated for mitochondrial activity (MTT assay), adherence capacity (methylene-blue assay), and phagocyte enzyme activity (myeloperoxidase, MPO, assay). The activity of α-amylase and free MPO, as well as the concentration of reactive oxygen species (ROS, i.e. O

), were determined in the peritoneal exudate fluid. Also, serum α-amylase activity determination and pancreatic tissue pathohistological analysis were performed.

The administered thymol (50 and 100mg/kg, per os) caused a significant decrease in the PEC mitochondrial activity and adherence capacity when compared with these functions of PECs isolated from rats with AP. A decrease in cellular MPO activity, as well as in the levels of ROS, α-amylase, and free MPO in peritoneal exudates was found in animals treated with thymol compared to the control animals with AP. Additionally, thymol administration prevented an increase in serum α-amylase activity, accompanied by the decrease in pancreatic tissue damage that follows l-arginine application.

The present results showed that thymol exerts significant immunomodulatory properties and a potential to silence PEC functions in inflammatory conditions such as the AP induced by l-arginine.
