For various reasons, some elderly patients with femoral neck fracture undergo delayed surgical treatment. There is little information about the effect of delayed treatment on postoperative hip function and quality of life. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of delayed hip arthroplasty on hip function, quality of life, and satisfaction in patients with femoral neck fractures.

Forty-seven patients with femoral neck fracture and hip replacement delayed over 21 days served as the delayed group (D group). Patients with femoral neck fracture, matched 11 for age and sex, and hip replacement within 7 days served as the control group (C group). The Harris hip score (HHS) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) were assessed before surgery and 3 months, 6 months and 1 year postoperatively. The satisfaction questionnaires were completed by the patients themselves at the last follow-up.

The HHS in the C group was lower than that in the D group (32.64 ± 9.11 vs. 46.32 ± 9.88, P < 0.05) before hip movement to ameliorate the lower limb muscle atrophy was recommended for patients facing a temporary inability to undergo surgery.An amendment to this paper has been published and can be accessed via the original article.
Males are less likely to seek help for mental health difficulties compared to females. Despite considerable interest, a paucity of evidence-based solutions exists to address this. Concerns about students' mental health has led to the United Kingdom's Department of Education to make this a priority. Studies have shown that male students hold more negative attitudes towards the use of psychological services compared to female students and are less likely to seek help. A major concern is that male students make up 69% of university suicides, which is often associated with lower rates of help-seeking. This focus group study therefore sought to identify potential approaches that would be relevant to improving mental health help-seeking in male students.

Three focus groups comprising of 24 male students at a London University were conducted. Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent type of arthritis, which commonly involves inflammation in the articular cartilage in OA pathogenesis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play essential roles in the regulation and pathophysiology of various diseases including OA. MiR-410-3p has been demonstrated to mediate inflammatory pathways, however, the regulatory functions of miR-410-3p in OA remain largely unknown.

The regulations of miR-410-3p were investigated in OA. Mouse primary chondrocytes and mouse in vivo models were used. The expression levels of miR-410-3p and HMGB1 were measured by qPCR. The transcription activity of NF-κB was assessed by luciferase reporter assay. MTT assay was performed to assess cellular proliferation. Cell apoptosis was evaluated with the Fluorescein Isothiocyanate (FITC) Annexin V assay. Expression levels of proteins were determined by Western blot.

The results demonstrated that miR-410-3p was markedly downregulated in articular cartilage tissues as well as in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated chondrocytes in OA mice. In addition, upregulation of miR-410-3p markedly inhibited LPS-induced apoptosis of chondrocytes. The results also demonstrated that the high mobility group box1 (HMGB1) was a target of miR-410-3p. LPS-induced upregulated expression of HMGB1 significantly suppressed expression of miR-410-3p. Furthermore, upregulation of miR-410-3p markedly inhibited HMGB1 expression, the nuclear factor (NF)-kB activity and pro-inflammatory cytokines production. Taken together, the results suggested that miR-410-3p targeted HMGB1 and modulated chondrocytes apoptosis and inflammation through the NF-κB signaling pathway.

Aim of the present study was first to identify genetic variants associated with egg number (EN) in female broilers, second to describe the mode of their gene action (additive and/or dominant) and third to provide a list with implicated candidate genes for the trait. A number of 2586 female broilers genotyped with the high density (~ 600 k) SNP array and with records on EN (mean = 132.4 eggs, SD = 29.8 eggs) were used. Data were analyzed with application of additive and dominant multi-locus mixed models.

A number of 7 additive, 4 dominant and 6 additive plus dominant marker-trait significant associations were detected. All of them were ventilated for four hours with the targeted tidal volume (V(T)) (6 ml/kg) and the positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) titrated with the maximum oxygenation method. Gas exchange, pulmonary mechanics and patient-ventilator synchrony were determined during 4 h of ventilation and the concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) in diaphragm were measured after 4 h of ventilation. The q test was used for the multiple comparison of the sample mean. Results There were no significant differences in PaO(2)/FiO(2) between three groups during ventilation 1-4 h (F=1.029, P>0.05). Methods All adolescent clients firstly visited psychiatric outpatient clinic of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from May to October 2018 were surveyed. The timely return visit was defined as the return visit within one month after the first visit and the timely return visit rate (RVR) was calculated. Chi-square test and binary Logistic regression were used to compare the RVR subgroup differences and relevant factors. Reasons for non-attendance at the return visit were acquired by the telephone follow-up. Results A total of 1 121 cases were enrolled, with an age of (16.0±1.6) years, 85.8% of them were students, and the overall RVR was 62.7% (703/1 121). The highest RVR was found in those who hoped for drug treatment (69.8%) and the lowest in those who did not accept drug treatment (55.8%) (χ(2)=9.028, P=0.029). The highest RVR was found in hospitalized patients (97.6%), followed by outpatient pharmacotherapy group (61.2%) and keeping observation and self-adjustment group (45.3%) (χ(2)=82.269, P less then 0.001). The RVR of patients prescribed mood stabilizers was significantly higher than that of non-users (χ(2)=9.498, P=0.002). Logistic regression analysis showed the main factors that affect the timely return visit included treatment regimens and prescribing of mood stabilizers. Results of telephone follow-up of clients with non-attendance showed that the main reasons were symptoms alleviation (68.4%) and various visiting barriers (14.3%). Conclusions Clients with active attitude towards pharmacotherapy, hospitalization and using mood stabilizers in outpatient have higher RVR rates. Insufficient understanding of systemic therapy remains the main reason why the clients fail to attend the return visit in time.

A systematically conducted scoping review was used. Seven databases were searched for published articles. Retrieved articles were screened for eligibility against pre-set inclusion and exclusion criteria with eligible full-text articles included in the synthesis. Reference lists of eligible articles and social media were reviewed to identify further sources of literature.

Forty-three sources of evidence were included. The extracted data indicate that a part of the nurse's role in antimicrobial stewardship is to monitor judicious antibiotic prescribing practices.
