About 700 gallons of diesel fuel spilled at the Maui Space Surveillance Complex located at the summit of Haleakala, the U.S. Space Forces said.

The cause of the failure is under review and fuel spill experts will assess the site to begin remediation efforts, the military said.

“We understand the importance of being good stewards of the environment and will work with the necessary state and federal officials as we begin cleanup efforts,” said Brig. Gen. Anthony Mastalir, commander of the U.S. Space Forces Indo-Pacific.

Ironic considering the US military is one of the largest polluters in history. US armed forces create 750,000 tons of toxic waste every year in the form of depleted uranium, oil, jet fuels, pesticides, defoliants, lead and other chemicals, according to MintPress News. MPN reports that almost 900 of the 1,200 Superfund sites in this country are abandoned military sites. The US military also uses almost 21 billion liters of fuel every year, more than the carbon emissions of Denmark.

Now that you know the facts, does it seem a bit strange to you that the world's largest polluter wants to lecture us about reducing our carbon footprint for "climate change?"
