Counting Your Blessings: Numbers to Be Thankful For – 2
NOVEMBER 19, 2022

That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
Hebrews 6:18

Recommended Reading: Hebrews 6:13-20

According to Hebrews 6:18, we have a powerful source of continual comfort in life because of two things God has said. The writer was thinking back to the promise and to the oath God gave to Abraham, that through his “seed” all the earth would be blessed. God made this promise repeatedly in Genesis, and then He confirmed it with an oath in Genesis 22:15-19.

God promised with the double assurance that Christ was on His way to us. Two immutable facts—God’s promise and His oath. The fulfillment is explained in Galatians 3:16: “The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say ‘and to seeds,’ meaning many people, but ‘and to your seed,’ meaning one person, who is Christ” (NIV).

Because of these two unchangeable things—God’s promise and His oath—we have one Savior, and in Him, we have all we need to lay hold of the hope set before us! Give thanks to God for the gift of the Savior!

[The word “hope” in Hebrews 6:18] describes a settled certainty combined with a confident expectation based upon the promises of God.
